All artwork created by Atra Luna Design remains the intellectual property of Anna-Lena Spies until full payment has been received. Upon receipt of full payment, the client receives the usage rights as specified in their chosen package.
Commercial License — The client may use the artwork for promotional purposes, book interiors, character cards, bookmarks, and free giveaways. Resale on merchandise is not permitted under this license.
Merchandise License — The client may use the artwork on products for resale (mugs, t-shirts, tote bags, etc.) as specified at time of commissioning.
Atra Luna Design retains the right to display all completed work in her portfolio, on social media, and in promotional materials, unless the client requests otherwise in writing before the project begins.
The client may not resell, redistribute, or sublicense the artwork to third parties without prior written agreement. Stock images, 3D assets, and textures used in the creation of the artwork remain subject to their original license terms and are not transferred to the client.
To ensure a smooth creative process and protect both parties, the following definitions and limits apply to all commissions.
Final stage: Once a design has entered the final painting or overpainting stage, any further changes are billed at $10 per individual change, regardless of remaining revision rounds.
Revisions do not carry over between projects or packages. Unused rounds expire upon project delivery and are non-refundable.
Atra Luna Design treats all client information — including unpublished manuscripts, story details, character descriptions, and project specifics — as strictly confidential.
Confidential information will not be shared with third parties without the client's explicit written consent. This obligation remains in effect after the completion of the project.
If a client requires a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) for their project, this must be requested and agreed upon in writing before work begins.
All prices are listed in US Dollars (USD). Payment is accepted via PayPal or Wise.
Standard projects: Full payment is due upon project completion and before the final high-resolution files are delivered.
Larger projects (Special Editions, multi-cover series, Kickstarter packages): A deposit of 50% is due before work begins. The remaining balance is due upon delivery of final files.
Work will not begin until any required deposit has been received. Final files will not be released until the full balance has been paid. Interim invoices (Zwischenrechnungen) may be issued at project milestones for larger commissions.
All prices shown on this website are base prices. Additional costs may apply for boutique stock imagery, specialty 3D assets, or scope changes agreed upon during the project.
Either party may cancel a project at any time. The following terms apply:
Cancellation before work has begun: Any deposit paid will be refunded in full.
Cancellation after work has begun: The deposit is non-refundable. The client will be invoiced for all work completed up to the point of cancellation, based on the agreed project rate.
Cancellation by Atra Luna Design: If Atra Luna Design must cancel a project, any payments made by the client will be refunded in full.
Unresponsiveness — no client communication for more than 30 days — may be treated as cancellation at the discretion of Atra Luna Design. Deposits paid in such cases are non-refundable.
Pre-made covers are sold as-is. Each design is sold exclusively to one client and will be removed from sale upon purchase.
Minor text changes (title, author name, series name) are included in the purchase. Significant design changes or additions are not included and may be quoted separately upon request.
Pre-made covers are non-refundable once the final files have been delivered. Please review all preview images carefully before purchasing.
Atra Luna Design guarantees professional, high-quality artwork delivered in a timely manner. However, no guarantee is made regarding the commercial success of the client's book, the performance of the cover in the market, or its reception by readers or retailers.
Design decisions are made in good faith based on the client's briefing, genre conventions, and current market trends. Atra Luna Design cannot be held responsible for outcomes outside the scope of the design work itself.
The client is encouraged — though not required — to credit Atra Luna Design as the cover designer in their book, on their website, and in promotional materials.

Atra Luna Design signs all original artwork. This signature may not be removed or cropped from the final files without prior written agreement.
Atra Luna Design is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of the delivered artwork, including but not limited to loss of revenue, lost profits, or business interruption.
The client is responsible for ensuring that all content provided in the briefing — including character descriptions, names, titles, and reference images — does not infringe upon the rights of third parties. Atra Luna Design cannot be held liable for copyright issues arising from client-provided materials.
In no event shall Atra Luna Design's total liability exceed the amount paid by the client for the specific project in question.
These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. Any disputes arising from a commission or from these terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts in Germany.
By commissioning work from Atra Luna Design, the client confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms of Service in full.
